Sophia Poor Secures Permanent Move to London City Lionesses Ahead of WSL Debut

London City Lionesses sign goalkeeper Sophia Poor permanently as they gear up for their Women's Super League debut.

Newly promoted Women's Super League side London City Lionesses have secured the permanent signing of goalkeeper Sophia Poor. The 19-year-old, who spent the latter half of last season on loan from Aston Villa, has now committed to the club on a full-time basis.

Sophia made 12 starts for the Lionesses after joining in January, playing a pivotal role in their promotion to the WSL for the first time in the club's history. The young goalkeeper, who has represented England at the under-17 and under-19 levels, is now focused on helping the team avoid the fate of the last two newly promoted sides, both of which were relegated immediately.

Jocelyn Precheur, the Lionesses' manager, expressed her excitement about the signing, stating, "As a goalkeeper, Sophia has probably the biggest potential I have ever seen. I really wanted to keep developing her because she has everything to become the best English goalkeeper in a few years. I really believe in her and I am grateful that she trusts us."

Sophia is the seventh player to join London City Lionesses this summer as they prepare for their WSL debut. Among the notable new arrivals are Danielle van de Donk, a Netherlands international midfielder, and Sanni Franssi, a Finnish striker. The club has also bolstered its defense with the signings of Isa Kardinaal, Teyah Goldie, Poppy Pattinson, and Spanish goalkeeper Elene Lete.

The Lionesses are determined to make a strong impression in their first season in the top flight, and Sophia Poor's permanent signing is a significant step in that direction. With a mix of young talent and experienced internationals, the team is poised to compete at the highest level of women's football in England.
