Former England opener Jason Roy has secured a last-minute deal to play in The Hundred after initially missing out in this year's draft. The 34-year-old will join Southern Brave as an injury replacement for South Africa's Faf du Plessis. Roy's recent performances in the T20 Blast have been impressive, with three scores over 50 in 10 matches for Surrey, averaging 30.10.

Roy, who previously played three seasons with Oval Invincibles, was released after a challenging 2023 season where he averaged just 17.11. Following his exclusion from England's 2023 World Cup squad, Roy has not featured in international cricket. Last year, he was signed by Northern Superchargers but missed the tournament due to injury, leading to his absence from the March auction.

His signing comes just before Tuesday's wildcard draft, where the eight men's and women's franchises will finalize their squads by selecting two additional players. The wildcard picks are expected to be domestic players, with recent form in the T20 Blast being a key factor. One of the most anticipated decisions is whether any franchise will sign veteran bowler James Anderson, who has taken 13 wickets in six Blast matches for Lancashire this season.

Other notable players without a Hundred deal include Ben Sanderson, the joint-highest wicket-taker in the Blast this season, and Tom Albert, who scored an unbeaten 98 against Glamorgan on Sunday. Additionally, Rocky Flintoff, son of legendary all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, is hoping to be picked after scoring 107 for England Under-19s last week.

The Trent Rockets will have the first pick in the men's wildcard draft, while Southern Brave will lead the women's draft. The event is scheduled for Tuesday at 09:00 BST.
