Former Australia captain Stephen Moore has publicly supported prop Angus Bell to take on the captaincy for the Wallabies in their upcoming series against the British and Irish Lions. With the first Test set to commence this Saturday in Brisbane, the decision on who will lead the team remains pending.

Moore, a veteran with 129 caps for Australia, expressed his confidence in Bell during an interview with BBC's Rugby Union Weekly. "We need our players that are world class, Angus Bell is a good example. I would have had him as captain if it was up to me," Moore stated.

The current head coach, Joe Schmidt, has yet to announce the series captain, with number eight Harry Wilson being a strong contender following his leadership in recent matches. However, Moore highlighted the potential complications in the back row selection, especially with the possible inclusion of flanker Rob Valetini, who missed the last game due to injury.

"Joe would have preferred to do that right [naming the captain], but that it is not his story to keep chopping and changing. He is finding out the best way to win," Moore added, reflecting on the strategic decisions facing Schmidt.

In addition to the captaincy debate, the Wallabies face challenges in the fly-half position, especially after Noah Lolesio was ruled out of the series due to injury. This has opened the door for 22-year-old Tom Lynagh, son of the legendary Michael Lynagh, to potentially make his Test debut.

Moore also pointed out the ongoing issue with the fly-half position in Australian rugby, stating, "Since Stephen Larkham retired in 2007, we haven't had an out-and-out world-class 10 for a period of time like the other great nations have had."

As the series approaches, all eyes will be on Schmidt's decisions, which could significantly impact the Wallabies' performance against a formidable Lions team.
