Asia Muhammad Adopts US Open Rescue Pup Wilson: A Heartwarming Tennis Tale
Asia Muhammad, a top doubles player, adopts Wilson, a rescue dog who stole hearts at the US Open, including Aryna Sabalenka's.

The 2025 US Open was not just about tennis; it was also about heartwarming moments off the court. One such moment involved a rescue dog named Wilson, who quickly became a fan favorite during Fan Week. Aryna Sabalenka, the world No. 1 and defending champion, was one of the first to fall for Wilson's charm. She shared a photo with him on her Instagram story, asking her followers to help convince her team to adopt him.
Fast-forward two weeks, and Wilson found a loving home with another tennis champion, Asia Muhammad. Currently ranked No. 17 in doubles and the winner of 13 doubles titles on the WTA Tour, Muhammad announced her adoption of Wilson on Thursday. She posted a series of pictures of them together, including one where Wilson is wearing his official US Open credential. "New pup, who dis? Welcome home, Wilson," Muhammad wrote.
Several of Muhammad's friends and peers congratulated her on the new addition. Shelby Rogers, who retired after the US Open last season, said, "Love this story! We love Wilson!!!" Jessica Pegula, who was slated to play Sabalenka in the semifinals just hours later, wrote, "The most perfect boy!"
Muhammad first became aware of Wilson and the other rescue dogs after fellow American doubles player Desirae Krawczyk posted a series of pictures and videos of them on Instagram. Krawczyk commented, "We love Wilson" on Muhammad's post, and Muhammad responded by crediting Krawczyk for making it happen. "All started from your post," she wrote.
Muhammad reached the quarterfinals in doubles at the US Open with partner Demi Schuurs. Although they lost on Tuesday, it gave Muhammad the chance to go home with her new best friend, Wilson. This story not only highlights the compassion within the tennis community but also the importance of animal rescue and adoption.
