Nolan McLean Makes History: First Mets Pitcher to Win First Four MLB Starts
Rookie Nolan McLean leads the Mets to victory, becoming the first pitcher in team history to win his first four MLB starts.

DETROIT -- Rookie sensation Nolan McLean continues to make waves in the MLB, securing his place in New York Mets history by becoming the first pitcher to win his first four career starts. On Tuesday night, McLean retired the final 14 batters he faced, leading the Mets to a commanding 12-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
McLean's performance was nothing short of spectacular. After a shaky first inning, he settled in, striking out seven batters while allowing just two runs on three hits and three walks. His ability to adjust and dominate after the first inning showcased his maturity and skill on the mound.
"Another impressive outing for him," said Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. "We all saw how in that first inning, especially the sweeper and the curveball ... he didn't have command of those pitches. A couple of walks, and they got him with a couple of singles there. That's what you call pitching. Understanding that you have to make adjustments and find a way to get through five or six innings, and he was able to do that."
McLean's 28 strikeouts through his first four starts rank second in Mets history, trailing only the legendary Nolan Ryan, who had 29 strikeouts in his first four starts.
Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who homered twice in the game, praised McLean's work ethic and professionalism. "I know everyone's going to be talking about all the great stuff he's doing on the field, which is for sure warranted, but how he's going about his business, the day to day, it's super impressive," Alonso said. "And that's the reason why he's able to do what he's been able to do on the field. ... He's been a pro since he's come up, and there's no shock and awe for why he's found his success."
The Mets' offense was also firing on all cylinders, with Juan Soto and Luis Torrens adding home runs to the scoreboard. New York's 17-hit onslaught included three hits each from Jeff McNeil, Brandon Nimmo, and Brett Baty.
With this victory, the Mets extended their lead over the Cincinnati Reds for the final National League wild card spot to five games. Meanwhile, the Tigers, who lead the American League Central, have lost seven of their last nine games.
McLean's historic start is a bright spot for the Mets as they push towards the postseason. His ability to dominate on the mound and his relentless work ethic make him a key player to watch in the coming weeks.
