Kaapo Kakko, a 24-year-old forward from Finland, was originally the No. 2 overall pick by the New York Rangers in the 2019 NHL Draft. The Kraken acquired Kakko on December 18, 2024, in exchange for defenseman Will Borgen, a 2025 third-round pick, and a 2025 sixth-round pick.

Last season, Kakko showcased his talent with a career-high 44 points, including 14 goals and 30 assists in 79 games split between the Rangers and the Kraken. His 30 assists were also a personal best.
